"How monotonously alike all the great tyrants and conquerors have been: how gloriously different are the saints."As we look around us and back through history, we see so many examples of those who seek their own power over the glory of God. But then I had to question myself, how often am I doing that in my life? How often do I seek to control my own affairs, however small they may be, instead of working and offering them to God for his glory, but ultimately leaving the outcome up to him? It is so easy to fall back into that trap and become a tyrant of the small and mundane, but a tyrant nonetheless.
I realized that I need to make a renewed commitment today, and every day, to invite God into even the seemingly small affairs, and to offer them up as his saints did. It is only in that offering that we become fully his own, and his grace and radical creativity fully active in us.
